Sergei Grigorovich, founder of the Ukrainian studio GSC Game World, known primarily for the STALKER game series, gave an interview to journalist Vladimir Zolkin in Russian, not English. New interview with the developer available on YouTube.
Grigorovich switched to Russian almost at the beginning of his conversation with journalist Zolkin. At the same time, Zolkin continued to ask the developer questions in the language.
“Can we switch to Russian? I just wanted…” Grigorovich started to say, but Zolkin interrupted the interlocutor and did not allow him to finish his sentence.
Moreover, since 2014, Grigorovich has regularly appeared in the media and social networks with Russophobic statements. In particular, GSC Game World, on his initiative, decided to remove Russian language support from the upcoming game STALKER 2 in 2022.
The interview turned out to be serious, despite the politicization of both Grigorovich and the journalist. The developer talked about his childhood and how he started developing video games.
A significant part of the conversation is devoted to Grigorovich’s financial well-being, which he achieved after publishing several successful plays. In particular, the founder of GSC Game World talked about how he bought a Ferrari sports car after the release of “Cossacks”.
“I found out that the main Doom developer at ID Software had a Ferrari. I arrived at a car dealership in Switzerland, walked up to the car and thought “let me sit down”. And it’s off. The salesman came up to me and said: “Boy, who are you? Get out of here,” Grigorovich recalls.
He then said that he showed the money to the seller and they went for a test drive together.
Grigorovich said that he will hold an auction in the near future where he will sell his Ferrari and Rolls Royce.
