Microsoft announced a major layoff that will cause 1,900 people to lose their jobs. In this respect reports The Verge’s edition.
The throttling will only affect the gaming section (Xbox). 8% of the total staff of the company, which employs 22 thousand people in total, will be laid off. Journalists became aware of the restructuring in a letter from Xbox head Phil Spencer that company employees began receiving on January 25, 2024.
From Spencer’s statement, it appears that both Xbox employees and employees of the recently acquired ZeniMax and Activision Blizzard companies will be laid off. Most of the layoffs will occur at Activision Blizzard.
“The people affected by this layoff have been instrumental in the success of the Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and Xbox teams and should be proud of what they have accomplished here. We are grateful for the creativity, passion, and dedication they bring to our games, our players, and our colleagues,” Spencer wrote in his letter.
It was not stated exactly when the discounts would start. However, the letter states that Microsoft will inform everyone individually. The reconstruction should be completed in 2024.
