Engineers from the Intelligent Robotics Research Center at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) have developed a portable robotic exoskeleton called MOONWALK-Omni. It makes it easier for the user to walk and climb. The research was published in the official gazette Web site CYST.

The device is a belt with four powerful actuators that attach to the hips, helping with balance and increasing leg strength by 30% with additional traction.

According to the developers, MOONWALK-Omni weighs two kilos. An adult can don the exoskeleton without assistance in less than 10 seconds.

The wearable robot’s artificial intelligence (AI) analyzes the user’s gait in real time and provides safe and effective muscle support in a variety of walking conditions, including gentle inclines, rugged rocky paths, steep wooden stairs, and uneven stone steps.

During the test, an elderly man climbed to the top of Yongbong Mountain, 604 meters above sea level, supported by the device. According to him, technology made him feel 10-20 years younger, and mountain hiking turned out to be comfortable.

Previously in Japan built A giant manned robot weighing 3.5 tons.
