Since 2023, Russian companies have been increasingly exposed to long-term DDoS attacks. In this regard, with reference to the Servicepipe company reports Vedomosti publication.

According to Servicepipe, 5% of all DDoS attacks recorded last year had a permanent impact. So they started in 2023 and are still continuing.

The top 5 longest-running DDoS attacks include incidents that began in February, March, May, and July 2022, as well as an attack that has been ongoing since February 2023. They targeted websites of commercial enterprises as well as local Internet resources.

Servicepipe noted that not all of the long-running DDoS attacks were politically motivated. Of the top 5 incidents identified, at least two initiatives were likely initiated by competitors.

According to information security experts, long-lasting DDoS attacks are at maximum power only at the beginning of the incident. Then they become weaker.

“Such an attack could be an attempt to stop the service in case of some kind of monitoring of the effectiveness of the protection and in some cases its disabling,” said Daniil Shcherbakov, Deputy General Manager of Servicepipe.
