More than a hundred people at Apple are testing dozens of prototypes of the company’s branded vehicles. In this respect reports MacReports publication, citing a report from the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
From the document, it appears that Apple employed 162 drivers testing prototypes of the company’s unmanned vehicles in early 2024. Apple has a total of 68 vehicles in its fleet.
The report also includes some information about the test results. Among other things, it includes data on accidents involving drones. For example, the last accident experienced by the Apple car was recorded on October 23, 2023.
This incident involved a Lexus vehicle with an Apple control system. The vehicle was being driven manually at the time of the accident. Another driver hit the side mirror of the Lexus while overtaking. No one was injured.
Until recently, the Apple car was expected to be released in 2026. However, at the end of last year, insider Ming-Chi Kuo announced that the product was delayed indefinitely.
