The Peak Evolution Team of the Austrian logistics company Gebruder Weiss broke the world altitude record in electric vehicles. The team’s solar panel-equipped truck reached 6,500 meters on the western ridge of Ojos del Saldo, the world’s highest active volcano, located in Chile. This has been reported Web site carrier.
“This is a record not only in terms of technology, but also in terms of our many years of research and the future of mobility. Patrick Koller, CEO and developer of Peak Evolution, said: “This achievement will draw greater attention to alternative drives and their use in mining and other demanding transportation applications. “We hope,” he said.
The electric truck’s journey to the Ojos del Saldo peaks took two months. It was first transported from Switzerland to Chile by sea, and then reached the Atacama region by land. The climb began at the Maricunga salt lake, where the expedition spent several days acclimating to the mountain conditions at an altitude of 3,400 metres.
According to the Peak Evolution Team, testing the vehicle in the wild was the best way to test its reliability and autonomy because on the volcanic slopes of Ojos del Saldo, the truck could only be charged with solar energy.
The team plans to take an electric truck to Greenland in 2024.
Previously, the Chinese company Xiaomi introduced its first electric car.
