The Bluesky social network from Jack Dorsey, the creator of the Twitter microblogging service, has acquired new features that make it more similar to its main rival in the person of X, the former Twitter renamed by its new owner Elon Musk. In the latest version 1.61, a built-in media player appeared in the mobile application and web version of the platform, which downloads video and audio files via links from YouTube, SoundCloud, Spotify and Twitch. Unlike X, BlueSky’s player does not autoplay content by default.

Additionally, Bluesky version 1.61 has added a “hide post” function to manage the content of your news feed.

The Bluesky functionality update comes just days after the social network allowed users to view messages on the service and share them on other platforms without logging in.

The BlueSky social network was launched in February 2023. The platform gained 2 million users during 10 months of its existence. Signing up for the service is currently only possible by invitation, which can be received from existing BlueSky members.
