Vladislav Povolotsky, Director General of the Center for Biometric Technologies (CBT), said that tens of millions of face and voice samples of Russian citizens are stored in the unified biometric system (UBS). He talked about this in an interview with the newspaper. “News”.

According to Povolotsky, the data of tens of millions of Russians has now been transferred to EBS under state protection. The process of transferring data from Russian banks is more than 80% complete. Most organizations have already submitted data to the database from consenting users.

The Central Bank CEO emphasized that all transferred biometrics have a limited validity period of two years. After that, all data will be automatically deleted from EBS. Now the question is being discussed about how users can remotely extend the validity period of data in the system, without additional face-to-face visits.

Povolotsky noted that in accordance with the law, data transfer to EBS cannot be made without informing the citizen, and it is possible to reject the information transfer. Banks informed users about the transfer 30 days in advance. Some citizens rejected this process. However, Povolotsky emphasized that such rejections are very few, about one percent of the total volume.
