German automaker BMW is collaborating with luxury boat manufacturer Tyde to create the world’s largest and most luxurious electric hydrofoil yacht. This situation was officially reported Web site Tyde.
According to known specifications, the ship of the future, called Open Tyde, will have a hull length of 14.7 meters and a width of 4.5 meters. The ship’s displacement will be 11.5 tons.
The yacht will be equipped with two electric motors of 100 kW each, which will allow it to reach a speed of 30 knots (55.5 km/h). Open Tyde’s range on a single charge of the 400 kWh batteries will be approximately 50 nautical miles (92 km) at cruising speed. The ship’s roof will be covered with solar panels to increase cruising range.
The previous joint project between Tyde and BMW, the luxury electric boat The Icon, was equipped with batteries from the BMW i3 electric car. Maybe Open Tyde will also get batteries from the German electric car.
The new yacht has a single cabin and a double sleeping area with bathroom. The cost of Open Tyde is not specified, but its predecessor, the Icon, has a price tag of 2 million euros.
