The UK Supreme Court in London rejected an application by Imagination Engines founder Stephen Thaler, who sought to list the artificial intelligence (AI) called DABUS, created by Thaler, as the author of patents for various inventions. The decision was published in the official gazette Web site court
While referring to patent law that requires the inventor to be a natural person, the judges stated that DABUS was definitely not human.
The court explained that its decision did not address the broader question of whether technical innovations created with the help of artificial intelligence can in principle be patented.
Previously, Stephen Thaler had attempted to patent a beverage container and warning light in several countries, claiming that DABUS had invented these devices.
Seems like oppression Bloomberg, Thaler’s lawyers, insisted during the hearing that the UK’s patent policy on AI discoveries was hindering innovation.
The lawyers also noted that if the court lets the entrepreneur down, this will create a precedent that will allow in the future to cite “my cat Felix” or “space forces” as the authors of inventions.
Previously US officials reputed Artificial intelligence is a potential threat to the country’s financial stability.
