Information security tools of the Russian company FACCT (former Russian division of Group-IB) may soon lose certification of the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control (FSTEC), a body of the FSB. From now on, Russian enterprises in the critical information infrastructure (CII) category will not be able to use FACCT solutions. Sources in the Russian information security market reported this to socialbites.ca.

FSTEC began sending a request to Russian companies of the CII category (these include the industrial sector, fuel and industrial complex, financial sector and more – editor’s note); In this request, businesses were asked to report on the use of any FACCT products. Companies must respond to the regulator’s request by December 25, 2023. A copy of the request is available to editors.

“This year FSTEC suspended the FACCT certification that allowed the company to sell its solutions to CII. Now it looks like the regulator wants to revoke the license altogether. Using the requests, FSTEC wants to determine how many companies use FACCT solutions and evaluate the size of the consequences in case of decertification,” a source from the information security market told socialbites.ca.

Another industry representative shared a similar opinion. He added that decertification could be lobbied by another company with which FACCT shares the market.

In FACCT “Newspaper. Ru” reported that they have information about the distribution of the request from FSTEC. The company attributes the growth to testing of products before renewing certification, which is a standard procedure for the regulatory body.

FACCT is the former Russian division of the international information security company Group-IB, created by Russian businessman Ilya Sachkov. He was arrested on suspicion of treason in 2021 and sentenced to 14 years in prison under this article in 2023.
