Hackers have developed a technique that allows them to silently spy on iPhone owners using third-party keyboards. The portal reports this TelephoneArena Citing a study by Certo Software.
It has been noted that attackers sell malicious applications for Apple smartphones to people who want to control their friends or loved ones. By disguising itself as a third-party keyboard application, the spyware records all typed texts and forwards them to relevant parties.
Certo Software experts emphasized that Apple generally does not allow such applications to enter the App Store. But hackers are bypassing the company’s protections by using its TestFlight service, which is designed for developers to test apps and allows them to install software without needing to publish it to the App Store. The cost of this opportunity is only 30 dollars (about 2.75 thousand rubles).
The study’s authors also note that installing malware requires physical access to the device. In this regard, experts recommend that iPhone owners scan their devices and remove any unknown third-party keyboards that may be present in the Keyboard settings section.
