At a conference on aerospace information technology in Chongqing, the principal researcher of Huawei 6G wireless technology laboratory presented the results of private satellite Internet testing. It works similarly to the Starlink project of Elon Musk’s SpaceX company. reports iXBT.

According to Huawei, the data download speed on its systems reached 660 Mbit/s. Huawei used satellites in low Earth orbit, similar to Starlink, to build its network. However, the company did not specify which satellites were included in the test. Maybe these were the same type of Chinese satellites that were launched into space before.

Huawei already has its flagship smartphone, the Mate 60 Pro+, that supports satellite communications. The existence of the device and the company’s tests indicate plans to build such a network. However, Huawei has not yet announced the exact timing of the commercial launch of satellite Internet.

Apple became the first company to launch the satellite communication feature on smartphones with the launch of the iPhone 14 in 2022. “Emergency Call – Satellite SOS” allows iPhone 14 and 15 owners in the US, Canada and 14 other parts of the world to send messages to emergency services in situations where mobile communications are not available. You cannot connect to satellite Internet on your iPhone.

Previously Samsung registered Artificial intelligence-supported smartphone brand.
