Microsoft has added a ChatGPT-powered chatbot from OpenAI to the Windows 11 command line (terminal). The novelty is still available in the beta version of the operating system on the Canary channel, the portal reports Windows Latest.
The new feature is designed to make the terminal easier to use. The chatbot can help with prompts and other information. For example, if a user asks the AI model to show all files with .md extension, the chatbot will ask you to enter “dir *.md” in the command line. The user can copy the suggested command from the AI and paste it directly into the terminal input line using a special button.
Additionally, ChatGPT can run both in the basic version of the terminal and in PowerShell. Accordingly, the chatbot adapts its responses to the shell environment.
Microsoft believes that the artificial intelligence built into the terminal is a useful tool for increasing productivity and a way to simplify interaction with the command line in Windows. It is not known when the innovation will work in stable builds of Windows 11.
