Since AirPods Max is currently Apple’s oldest device in the AirPods series, the second version of the device will most likely be available by the end of 2024. In this respect reports MacRumor’s post cites well-known insider Mark Gurman.
According to Gurman, Apple will replace the Lightning port on the current generation AirPods Max with a USB-C port. This will ensure the headphones comply with European regulations and provide consistency across the company’s AirPods lineup.
Bluetooth 5.3 is currently available on AirPods Pro 2, iPhone 15 series, and the latest Apple Watch models. It is also supported on all Mac models released in 2023. Therefore, it is almost inevitable that the second generation AirPods Max will have a similar Bluetooth standard.
Bluetooth 5.3 includes improvements that can increase wireless connection reliability as well as energy efficiency.
According to a Bloomberg report dated October 2023, Apple will offer the second generation AirPods Max in new colors. AirPods Max are currently available in space grey, silver, green, sky blue and pink.
