Roskomnadzor believes that ads by Russian bloggers on Instagram (its owner, Meta, is known as an extremist and is banned in Russia) should be labeled in accordance with the established requirements of Russian legislation, despite the blocking of the social network in the Russian Federation. In this respect reports Vedomosti publication cites Alexander Zaveryachev, head of the organizational development and information technology department of RKN.
In his response letter to Tatyana Ivanova, President of the Association of Bloggers and Agencies (ABA), Zaveryachev pointed out that advertisements should be tagged. Initially, Ivanova asked whether ads on Instagram should be labeled and a report on this should be submitted to the Unified Register of Internet Advertising.
In his letter, Zaveryachev admitted that advertisers’ financial incentives for bloggers motivate influencers to continue being active on Instagram. But the fact that ads on this social network are not tagged gives it a non-competitive advantage over Russian online services.
The Internet Advertising Labeling Law came into force on September 1, 2022. The law states that each advertising material must be labeled accordingly, as well as information about the advertiser and publish an individual identifier for data recording.
