The first wireless chargers supporting the new Qi2 charging standard will be available as early as 2023, according to a new announcement from the Wireless Electromagnetic Power Consortium (WPC). In this respect reports MacRumor’s publication.
Qi2 technology is the next generation Qi standard. Qi2 devices will work similarly to Apple’s MagSafe feature; This means they will use magnets to align the mount to the smartphone and charge it faster.
iPhone 15 models are the first Apple smartphones to support the Qi2 standard. According to WPC, more than 100 Qi2 devices are currently being tested, including devices from companies such as Belkin, Mophie, Anker and Aircharge.
Already announced Qi2 chargers promise to charge smartphones with up to 15W of available power. However, it is not yet clear whether the iPhone 15 will support such fast wireless charging. There are doubts about this because, as MacRumors writes, the iPhone 15 specifications state that it only supports Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W.
