Enthusiast under the alias RemuNotMoe shared on Twitter – Nokia has turned the 1860 button into a PDA running Linux. The modder named the modified device Notkia.
However, it is not just new software installed on an old phone. Modification involves replacing most of the hardware. For example, the original board has been replaced with a 1GHz single-core MIPS Ingenic X100E processor with 64MB of RAM, 32MB of NOR flash and 4GB of SLC NAND flash.
The original 128×160 TFT screen has been replaced by a 2 inch 240×320 pixel LCD. At the same time, the new screen turned out to be very large, so some information goes beyond the protective panel. Thus, the apparent screen resolution is 220×280 pixels.
Notkia is also equipped with USB Type-C port, 5 MP camera and WiFi 4 module. The device runs Linux and thanks to upgraded wireless components, Notkia can be used as a wireless communication device or walkie-talkie.
