YouTube has announced a crackdown on online ad-blocking services like AdBlock, now asking users to disable such utilities in their browsers before playing videos. In this respect reports The Verge’s edition.
The request to disable the blocker appears in a window at the top of the YouTube player. The window also offers options to “Continue watching videos with ads” and “Buy a YouTube Premium subscription.”
Christopher Lawton, YouTube’s chief communications officer, told The Verge that the new measure was needed to encourage more people to sign up for a paid YouTube Premium subscription. From his words it becomes clear that a notification asking to disable advertising began to appear among video hosting users around the world.
Lawton claims that the use of ad blockers violates YouTube’s terms of service. According to him, “Advertising supports an ecosystem of diverse content creators around the world and allows billions of people to access the content they love.”
According to The Verge, YouTube began using a disclaimer regarding ad blockers in test mode in July 2023.
Previously Yandex Music for the first time reported About removing illegal content.
