In the third quarter of 2023, new types of destructive DDoS attacks were recorded in Russia and the rest of the world, which many companies are not ready to repel. socialbites.ca learned about this from a report made available to editors by the information security company StormWall.

One of the most striking trends in the third quarter of 2023 was that attackers used hybrid botnets (groups of devices participating in a DDoS attack – editor’s note) consisting of various malicious programs. This makes hybrid botnets both versatile and resilient to defenses, as each DDoS attack malware has its own capabilities and attack vector.

“Hybrid botnets are actively used by attackers in different parts of the world, as well as in Russia. Because this tool for launching attacks is just beginning to emerge, many companies do not yet have reliable protection against this threat, and hackers can do a lot of damage to their businesses,” StormWall said.

Another significant trend in Q3 2023 was the significant increase in the number of multi-vector attacks targeting various parts of the network infrastructure such as the website, production processes, corporate network and more. The number of such incidents increased by 83 percent in the world compared to the previous year, and by 16 percent in Russia. There has also been an increase in DDoS attacks targeting companies’ web applications (web services such as personal accounts and more – editor’s note). The number of attacks on web applications increased by 48% globally and 14% in Russia.
