Sony has confirmed that the internal memory of the new versions of PlayStation 5, which officially carries the Slim prefix in its name, can be expanded by connecting an additional SSD drive. In this respect reports IGN broadcast.
Both versions of the PlayStation 5 Slim have a built-in 1TB hard drive. Only 825 GB of these will be available to users. For comparison: on devices of the first revisions, 667 GB is allocated for user data.
Sony confirmed to IGN via email that the Slim versions of the consoles, like the originals, support expansion with an additional SSD. At the same time, the new devices retained the restriction that requires the use of only M.2 format SSDs with a PCIe Gen4 interface and a read speed of at least 5500 MB/s.
IGN writes that read speed can most likely be neglected when choosing an SSD. Since users of the first revisions of the PlayStation 5 have experimentally discovered that slower drivers also work with the game console.
PlayStation 5 Slim will go on sale in November 2023. The version without a disk drive will cost $ 450 (about 45 thousand rubles at the exchange rate of October 11, 2023), and with a disk drive – $ 500 (about 50 thousand rubles).
