The base iPhone 15 and 15 Plus received the same advanced Qualcomm X70 5G modem as the flagship iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. In this respect reports 9to5Mac edition, quoting iFixit expert Shahram Mokhtari.
Mokhtari discovered a similar component while disassembling the base and flagship iPhone 15. The expert praised Apple for this decision.
“This decision shows that basic iPhones aren’t always little siblings that end up with obsolete components. The company seems genuinely committed to keeping its motherboard components up to date, even if it requires additional resources,” Mokhtari wrote.
Qualcomm X70 is the next generation of 5G modems. Internet speed measurements on the iPhone 15 showed 24% faster on a 5G network compared to the Qualcomm X65 on the iPhone 14.
9to5Mac writes that the Qualcomm X70 has other advantages over the previous generation, besides increased Internet speed. For example, the new modem is more energy efficient, has an expanded communication channel, and also better receives remote communications from base stations.
