They will start making computers with Chinese processors in Russia

The Russian company Norsi-Trans announced the production of servers, data storage systems (DSS), computers and laptops based on Chinese Loongson processors. In this respect reports Kommersant publication (Kommersant), citing the words of Norsi-Trans General Director Sergei Ovchinnikov.

Norsi-Trans has already purchased nearly a hundred Loongson processors that will be used in test production of a number of devices. The company plans to introduce souped-up versions of the equipment into the Russian electronic register of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and sell them to government and corporate customers.

Norsi-Trans’s partner in the new project will be Basalt SPO company. The software developer will adapt the Viola operating system to Chinese processors.

Kommersant writes that Norsi-Trans is not the only Russian electronics manufacturer that plans to use Loongson processors in its equipment. Similar initiatives are also included in the road map of Prombit company.

Experts interviewed by journalists believe that the transfer of Russian equipment to Loongson was necessary to reduce the country’s dependence on American technologies from Intel and AMD.
