On the eve of Apple’s September presentation with the release of iOS 17, Russians were attacked using Telegram bots by scammers offering to download the firmware before its release. In this respect reports The Izvestia publication quotes information security experts.
“There is an increase in suspicious activity related to the new operating system in connection with the Apple presentation on September 12. Thus, bots appeared that “help” install a new operating system before others,” Izvestia quotes R-Vision expert Pyotr Kutsenko.
Experts also warned that the use of these bots carries the risk of hacking Apple ID and iCloud accounts. In this case, attackers can access all the personal data of the iPhone owner and use them for further phishing attacks or blackmail.
“Even if the bot actually helps install a new firmware version, it can simultaneously collect additional information about the client in order to monetize it in the future and use it in other ways,” warned Kaspersky Lab cybersecurity expert Leonid Bezvershenko.
Previously retailers published Russian prices for all iPhone 15 models.
