As part of the Gamescom 2023 game exhibition in Cologne, Nintendo showed some developers behind closed doors a prototype of the new Switch 2 game console. report publications Video Games Chronicle (VGC) and Eurogamer.
Media does not describe the new device, but reports that Nintendo demonstrated its capabilities in the sample of various tech demos. According to Eurogamer, one of them was an enhanced version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild with a higher frame rate and resolution than the original. Journalists do not rule out that later Nintendo may release a re-release of this game.
In response, VGC announced the launch of the prototype of The Matrix Awakens, a project built on the Unreal Engine 5 engine. This tech demo was released in 2021 specifically to showcase the capabilities of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
According to the VGC report, the Switch 2 supports ray tracing as well as Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology. According to VGC, The Matrix Awakens’ image quality on a Nintendo device was the same as on the latest Sony and Microsoft consoles.
Nintendo Switch 2 is said to be released in the second half of 2024.
