The Microsoft Edge browser, which is part of the Windows 10 and 11 operating systems, has begun to classify the installation file of the rival Google Chrome browser as a potentially dangerous application. In this respect informs Windows Latest Portal.

In other words, when trying to download the ChromeSetup.exe distribution via Edge, users receive a warning that the file may harm their device. The system offers to refuse to download or save the file at your own risk and responsibility.

This isn’t the first time Microsoft has tried to discourage users from using competing products. The company places Edge banner ads on the Bing search page when Google Chrome is requested, and a notification appears on the Google browser site that Edge is also based on Chromium technology.

The company itself did not comment on the situation. The socialbites.ca correspondent was unable to reproduce the situation, as the Google Chrome installer was detected as a potentially dangerous file on various devices running Windows 10 and 11. It is possible that Microsoft has already fixed this bug.

Formerly Microsoft persistently MSI motherboard users do not update Windows.
