Google has developed a new feature for Android smartphones that will allow users to easily port their phone numbers using eSIM. In this respect informs 9to5google portal.

According to the source, the new feature will be implemented via a QR code that will appear on the screen during the installation of the new device. Thus, the user will be able to disconnect the eSIM number from the old smartphone and connect it to the new one without contacting the operator.

As 9to5google pointed out, a similar feature is already available on iOS, but in Apple’s case, Bluetooth is used to connect. Journalists believe that the innovation will contribute to the spread of eSIM in Android smartphones and may lead to the complete rejection of physical SIM cards in the future.

It looks like Google is implementing this feature in conjunction with the upcoming announcement of Pixel 8 series branded smartphones, which could be the first Android devices without physical SIM support. This is also indicated by the leaked images of the Pixel 8 Pro, which does not have a SIM tray on it.

The first smartphone to completely abandon SIM cards and opt for eSIM was the iPhone 14 for the US market.

Previously reportedThat the Realme GT5 smartphone will have a solid glass cover and an unusual backlight.
