The total number of multiple vector attacks against Russian companies in the first half of 2023 increased by 136% compared to the same period last year. This was reported to socialbites.ca in the press service of StormWall, a company specializing in information security.

Multi-vector DDoS attacks are a series of attacks directed simultaneously at different network levels and components of the enterprise infrastructure, which have great destructive power as they can paralyze the operation of the site, network and other resources of the target.

Most of the multi-vector attacks were directed against the Russian Federation’s financial sector (36% of the total number of attacks), the telecom sector (25%) and retail (14%). 8 percent of the attacks were met by the public sector, 7 percent by the entertainment sector, 5 percent by the energy sector, 4 percent by the oil sector and 1 percent by other industries.

In addition, according to StormWall, the number of multi-vector DDoS attacks globally in the first half of 2023 increased by 117% compared to the same period last year. The most frequent victims of such attacks were the financial sector (28%), retail (21%) and the public sector (16%). In addition, the telecom sector (14%), the entertainment sector (9%), the transport sector (6%) and the health sector (4%) were also under attack. The remaining sectors received 2% of the total number of attacks.

StormWall experts point out that multi-vector DDoS attacks are one of the most dangerous cyber threats for businesses today. They recommend that companies use professional solutions to protect against such attacks, as it is very difficult to reflect these on their own.
