Qualcomm unveils three G-series chipsets for game consoles

Qualcomm unveiled its new Snapdragon G-series mobile chips at Gamescom 2023 in Cologne. According to the press release received by socialbites.ca, one of the first devices based on the G3x Gen 2 platform will be the Ayaneo Pocket S portable game console.

In total, the line includes three chipsets. Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 is the flagship representative of the series. This chip supports ray tracing and can work with camera-equipped devices. According to Qualcomm, the new product has improved performance compared to the first generation G3x: graphics are twice as fast thanks to the Adreno A32 and the processor performs more than 40% better than the previous model.

The Snapdragon G1 targets devices used to stream games over a local network or cloud. This chip provides high quality picture and sound with low power consumption.

The Snapdragon G2 version will allow mobile gaming by offering a balance between performance and energy efficiency, and will positively affect the battery life of portable consoles powered by this chip. At the same time, all chips of the series have a common processor consisting of eight Kryo cores. However, the G1 and G2 lack ray tracing and camera support.

The first gadget based on the flagship Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 will be Ayaneo’s Pocket S console, which will be fully unveiled in December 2023. The developers promise to deliver high performance in a thin and light portable device. The set-top box will have an active cooling system and will be released with various memory changes.
