For some countries, versions of the new Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro smartphones will not have a physical SIM tray. In this respect informs Mishaal Rahman, data miner and insider.

According to Rahman, two facts point to this. First, renders of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro published by OnLeaks and SmartPrix do not show the tray cutout. At the same time, OnLeaks renderings are generally extremely accurate. Second, Google recently announced the development of a technology that allows you to format a physical SIM card as an eSIM and rewrite the eSIM from device to device.

Mashaal believes that versions of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro without physical SIM trays will launch, at least in the US. Devices supporting conventional SIM cards are being developed for other countries. According to an insider this is demonstrated by at least one leaked video from the Pixel 8 Pro, where you can see the tray.

“It makes sense for Google to drop the SIM tray on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, at least on the US models. Apple has already done the same with the iPhone lineup,” wrote Mashaal.

Pixel 8 and 8 Pro smartphones are expected to be announced in October 2023.
