A group of Western Digital SSD owners filed a class action lawsuit against the manufacturer for serious failures of their SanDisk Extreme Pro external drives and the resulting loss of personal files. It has been reported Tom’s Hardware.
The plaintiffs claimed more than $5 million in damages. The initiator of the case was Nathan Krum, a California resident.
Since May 2023, users have been complaining of issues with SanDisk Extreme. Among other things it was about data loss and malfunctions. The most common symptom of a problem was the message “disk cannot be read by computer” when connecting.
Western Digital acknowledged the problem and promised to release a firmware update. However, the manufacturer later announced that the fix will only be released for the 4TB SanDisk Extreme and Extreme Pro.
Plaintiffs said users with smaller drives are experiencing the same issues, but the company has not responded.
In the lawsuit, it is claimed that the disks sent to the customers for the replacement of the damaged disks also malfunctioned.
