Elon Musk’s social network X (formerly Twitter) is working on a feature to verify identity using an ID photo. In this respect informs Engadget portal quoting researcher Nim Ouji.
Ouji, who specializes in researching unreleased features in X, first noticed the “Identified” badge on Musk’s profile this month. It has now found the relevant item in the app with a detailed description of the innovation, indicating that the feature will be available soon.
It reads, “Verify your account by providing a government-issued ID. It usually takes about 5 minutes.” It is also stated that in addition to the passport photo, the user will have to take a selfie with the document.
X’s authentication partner will be Au10tix. It was noted that the information transmitted for verification can be seen by both Au10tix and X. In addition, the social network will store images of an ID card, including biometric data, for up to 30 days and use this data for security purposes.
It is not yet known whether profile identification by passport will be mandatory and what benefits verified profiles will have. But it seems that soon Elon Musk’s social network will have a new way to verify his profile. Currently, only paid verification is available for users on the X Premium subscription, formerly known as Twitter Blue.
