Xiaomi’s built-in proprietary antivirus began to prohibit the installation of the Telegram messenger, identifying the application as fake. In this respect informs Bleeping Computer portal.

Those who try to install Messenger on their Xiaomi smartphones receive a message that the application has not passed the security check. Allegedly, Telegram is a fraudulent app.

According to the source, this issue is only observed in Chinese MIUI firmware used on smartphones in China. It is assumed that the installation ban may be related to the desire of the PRC authorities to restrict access to foreign messengers.

It is not yet clear how this security feature will affect Xiaomi users outside of China, especially those using the Chinese version of the MIUI firmware or custom XiaomiEUs, again based on the Chinese versions. Most likely, global MIUI will not block Telegram or other apps that are not banned in other countries.

Telegram developers and Xiaomi have not yet commented on this situation.
