Encryption viruses hold the record for fastest hacking of users’ computers; an attacker can complete the entire process in less than half an hour. About it in an interview “Newspaper.Ru” said Kaspersky Lab chief expert Sergey Golovanov.

“When it comes to ransomware, everything can happen in just 25 minutes,” he said.

According to the expert, most of the time is spent getting into the system rather than infecting computers.

“An attacker remotely hacked into a computer at a foreign company, looked around, went out for a smoke, poured himself a cup of tea, returned to his computer and pressed Enter, which resulted in encryption of all the disks in this company.” explained.

According to Golovanov, the 25-minute period from first entry to the start of disk encryption is considered and the purpose was a ransom for decryption.

He explained that there are other types of long attacks in which so-called “bookmarks” are used. The expert concluded that “Custom malicious code “sleeps” and the attacker must “continually extend the sleep period”.
