“The incident was detected in October 2022 after suspicious activity was recorded in our systems. It became clear that hostile actors first gained access to the systems in August 2021, the election commission said in a statement.

Cybercriminals with access to names, residential addresses and emails could not be identified. At the same time, the British Information Commissioner’s office said the leak is unlikely to pose a high risk to individuals.
