Smartphones without removable batteries will be banned from the European market by 2027. These release reports Android Authority.
This decision was taken by the Council of Europe. The EU’s political body has completed the procedure for adopting rules on smartphones.
A law was also passed, forcing device manufacturers to produce devices with removable batteries. The document states that devices without removable batteries will be banned from sale in the European Union from 2027.
According to EU officials, the measure will reduce the amount of waste among electronic devices and increase the efficiency of recycling. Officials said the ultimate goal of the law is to enable companies to manufacture smartphones from recyclable materials.
The Android Authority stated that even if the law only applies in the European Union, it will also affect other markets for companies.
“Samsung, Google, Apple and other companies do not develop European-specific devices. Apple will not create a European iPhone with a replaceable battery and no battery for the US. So this law will change all iPhones. It will also replace all tablets, laptops, electric cars, electric bicycles and everything else with batteries,” he said.
