LG announced a change to its business model and the introduction of paid service subscriptions for the purchase of refrigerators and other home appliances. It has been reported PCMag.
“LG will innovate with a service business model. For example, at the expense of content, services, subscriptions,” the company said in a statement.
The manufacturer is considering using home appliances to promote subscription services. The company’s goal is to further develop the ThinQ UP device line.
In LG’s opinion, if the owner wants to get new features, for this he will have to subscribe, which will give access to software updates. This will expand the capabilities of household appliances after purchase.
According to the tech company’s management, this approach will help create the “Home as a Service” platform, which will include subscriptions to smart home services and personalization of home appliances for each home owner.
ThinQ UP series appliances include smart dishwashers, refrigerators and ovens that can be controlled from a smartphone via a dedicated app.
LG also plans to increase revenue by advertising on LG Channels, the company’s own free video streaming platform, available on TVs.
