A developer and blogger nicknamed NTDev has managed to run a working version of Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system on a computer with only 176 MB of RAM. video posted on YouTube.
This amount of RAM is about 1/20 of Microsoft’s recommended minimum requirements. To be able to run the operating system, the blogger had to minimize processes inside Windows 11.
NTDev announced that it is actively reducing the functionality of the operating system and also minimizing the number of drivers. According to journalists, the text version of Windows 11 without graphics can run on 96 MB of RAM, but NTDev managed to preserve the familiar look of the desktop of the popular operating system.
Judging by the posted video, when using small applications and utilities, the operating system is easy to use and does not show any freezing or other problems while working. Blogger named the Windows 11 version Tiny11 for incredibly weak PCs.
The developer stated that the stripped Tiny11 system boots to the command line, not Windows Explorer. He also said that he came to this conclusion after many checks as to which drivers and services are absolutely necessary to boot Windows 11.
“Even things like the driver interface used were taken into account,” the developer said.
