In the first half of 2023, most Russian mobile operators managed to increase the speed of mobile Internet thanks to frequency regulation. In this respect informs publication “Kommersant”, which refers to the statements of companies.
MegaFon said that the Internet speed on its networks in Russia increased by 12% compared to the previous year, reaching 29.34 Mbps. Separately, the company chose Moscow – in the capital, the speed increased by 6% to 44.27 Mbps. Vimpelcom (Beeline) increased by 10%. MTS recorded “insignificant growth”. On Tele2, the pace in the country did not change, but in Moscow this figure increased by 4%.
Operators noted that the increase in efficiency was achieved through the so-called frequency redevelopment. This procedure means reconfiguring base stations operating in the 3G band to the 4G band. MegaFon stated that in the specified period, they re-introduced agriculture in 24 regions of Russia. MTS reported that it has reorganized 62% of its base stations in Moscow.
Experts Kommersant interviewed believe that re-agriculture only temporarily improves communication. Without new equipment connected, a severe shortage of which is felt in Russia due to sanctions, operators will quickly hit the ceiling and network speed will begin to drop.
