Links to posts and profiles on the rival social network Threads began to disappear from Twitter. In this respect informs Edition of The Verge.
Twitter users and journalists noticed that, thanks to the social network’s built-in search, links to Threads, a rival platform of Meta (known as extremist in Russia and banned in Russia), stopped appearing in search results. At the same time, the posting of links on Twitter is still allowed – in the social network there is a huge amount of content from Topics.
What this question is probably related to is not reported. The Verge does not rule out that a particular search job may be an error. At the same time, journalists remind that Twitter owner Elon Musk is very critical of Threads and its founders, Mark Zuckerberg, meaning that links to posts and profiles on a rival social network can disappear from search results on Musk’s personal initiative.
The Verge also reminded that if the Threads situation isn’t accidental, Twitter will deliberately restrict the availability of content from other services on its platform for a second time. At the beginning of April 2023, Elon Musk’s social network has already limited the work of links to the Substack platform.
However, it’s quite possible that the Threads state was caused by a bug. The fact is that the current restriction on Twitter search is easily bypassed by replacing the dot with a space in the request in the form “threads.net”.
