Security company Guardz has discovered a new type of malware called ShadowVault, designed specifically to steal confidential data from computers running macOS. In this respect reported on the company’s website.
According to Guardz, ShadowVault is distributed on the dark web for a monthly fee of $500; that’s half the price of a similar software used to steal information from Apple computers called Atomic Stealer.
Running in the background on computers running macOS, ShadowVault can silently steal passwords, cookies, bank card data, electronic wallets and all information from browser extensions, steal Telegram accounts and other confidential data. ShadowVault developers also promise to provide a signed malware build by an Apple developer for an additional fee.
Experts state that ShadowVault does not compromise data from the Safari browser in any way. However, this software poses a serious threat to users of other popular browsers and even to Apple’s Keychain functionality, which saves logins and passwords on macOS and iOS.
