Samsung has delayed the launch of the mixed reality (XR) headset it has developed with Google and Qualcomm in conjunction with Apple’s latest presentation of the Vision Pro. In this respect informs South Korean edition of SBS Biz, citing sources.
The reason why the introduction of Samsung’s XR headset was delayed was the Korean company’s desire to increase the screen resolution from 2000 to 3000 PPI in order to approach Apple’s 3400 PPI. Samsung Electronics has already notified display suppliers BOE and Samsung Display of the change in production schedule.
In February 2023, Samsung announced a partnership with Qualcomm and Google to develop a mixed reality platform based on Android and Snapdragon XR. During the Google I/O conference in May, representatives of the American company said they would talk more about this collaboration “later this year”. Now, according to the source, Samsung’s headphone announcement is expected to be made in 2024.
This isn’t the company’s first experience in virtual reality: Samsung has released VR helmets Gear VR and Odyssey Plus in the past, but these devices aren’t widely used.
Earlier Apple earphones decided to sell with coupons.
