Hackers began attacking Russian agricultural companies in mid-2023

In the second quarter of 2023, the number of DDoS attacks against Russian companies increased by 46% compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 176.3 thousand. In this respect informs Kommersant with reference to a study by DDoS-Guard.

In addition, compared to the first quarter of this year, the growth rate of DDoS attacks increased by 13.5% and the daily average number increased by 11.7%.

If regional media and entertainment services were the main targets of hackers at the beginning of 2023, in the second quarter they turned their attention to sectors related to agriculture, education and logistics. Thus, the AgroSignal service, which provides information systems to agricultural enterprises, was exposed to more than 20 attacks from April to June, while the traffic volume exceeded 5 Gbps. The company AgroSignal said that the attacks did not have serious consequences for users and data.

In early July, the holding of Russian Railways (RZD) faced a large-scale attack on IT resources, which disrupted the operation of the company’s website and mobile application for which tickets were sold. Shortly after the attack, Russian Railways acknowledged the failures and announced the resumption of services.

The number and complexity of cyberattacks against Russian IT infrastructure has increased since last year. To combat this problem, Roskomnadzor ordered the creation of the National DDoS Countermeasure System, which should be launched by March 2024.
