Threads are positioned as an analogue of Twitter. Meta plans to launch the new platform on July 6, 2023. However, now users can install the corresponding app on iPhone. This is exactly what Dorsey did and it finally pissed him off.
Dorsey criticized Threads for collecting large amounts of user data. The Twitter founder posted a screenshot showing Topics asking permission to retrieve user information about finance, health, contacts, shopping, location, and more. In total, 14 categories of data are listed in the Topics privacy policy.
“All your threads are ours,” Dorsey ironically commented on the screenshot.
The post of the founder of Twitter received close to 6 million views, 20 thousand likes and more than 4 thousand comments. One of the comments comes from Dorsey’s friend and current Twitter owner, Elon Musk.
