WSJ: Washington wants to limit Chinese companies’ access to cloud computing services

Washington plans to restrict American providers’ access to cloud computing services for Chinese companies. This was reported by the newspaper citing knowledgeable sources. The Wall Street Gazette.

According to the information obtained by the publication, Amazon and Microsoft may also be among the US companies that will have to obtain permission from the US authorities in order to serve Chinese companies.

It also suggests the possibility of Chinese cloud providers such as Alibaba and Tencent restricting their activities in the US.

The newspaper described the measures taken by the US administration as the last step in the struggle for access to the world’s most advanced technology between Washington and Beijing.

The contract was aimed at modernizing the Pentagon’s IT operations. According to the agency, “due to changing requirements, increased cloud computing availability, and industry advances, the JEDI Cloud contract no longer meets their needs.”

Cloud infrastructure is servers that host virtualized data, storage systems, computing resources and security system.
