The developers of the popular PlayStation 3 console emulator called RPCS3 have announced that they have started work on a new project, RPCSX, a PS4 emulator. message about it printed On the Read-Only Grade portal.

The RPCS3 emulator has been around for 12 years and supports more than 3,500 PS3 games, of which about 2,500 work without major issues. The creators of the emulator intend to use their experience and knowledge in the development of RPCSX.

The idea to create a PS4 emulator came to the author of RPCS3 under the pseudonym DH in 2013, but the project was delayed until the release of the next generation Sony console. In addition to DH, two more experienced RPCS3 developers are working on RPCSX – kd-11 and Nekotekina.

RPCSX is still in early development for Linux and does not yet have the ability to run PS4 games. DH points out that PS4 emulation is slightly more difficult than PS3 emulation, and the GPU is even easier to use. Shaders are the main issue, but developers have access to official documentation.

In the future, the RPCSX emulator will allow PC gamers to play PS4-only games like Bloodborne, inFamous: Second Son, The Last of Us: Part 2 and more.
