An autonomous water treadmill has been developed in Siberia to assist in the early stages of rehabilitation after diseases of the cardiovascular system, central nervous system, injuries and surgeries using hydrotherapy. This was reported to socialbites.ca at the Siberian Center for Biotechnological Science and Education.

The treadmill is installed in a mini pool or capsule. The water supply is provided by a pump and filter system. There is a special tank with water supply for uninterrupted operation. The track supports different speed modes from 0.5 to 16 km/h and the water can be heated up to +40°C.

The maximum water height inside the device is 135 cm. The device can change the angle of inclination and has removable guardrails. The main benefit of the standalone water treadmill is that it relieves pressure on sore joints and muscles so you can recover more quickly.

According to the developers, the device will differ from foreign analogues – it will increase patient weight (up to 200 kg instead of 150), combine children’s and adult versions in one design and add the ability to find a doctor in it. Capsule with patient if needed. The device can also be installed in a normal pool.

It is recommended to use the track for the early rehabilitation of people with musculoskeletal injuries, diseases of the cardiovascular system and central nervous system. In addition, the water treadmill will help the elderly maintain their physical fitness after hip fracture, heart attack and stroke. Another application of the new development is in high-achieving sports competitions and recovery after injuries.

The training center said that foreign analogues are currently not available for Russia. Specialists of the Siberian Center for Biotechnological Research and Education added that the device will have fully Russian-made components and software that records data for each patient.
