On the iFixit YouTube channel posted a video With analysis of the Asus ROG Ally portable console on Windows 11. Experts rated the new set-top box’s maintenance level higher than Valve’s Steam Deck.

According to the presenter, the Asus ROG Ally is one of the easiest to repair and upgrade consoles on the market because accessing the device’s internal components is as simple as unscrewing the six screws on the back cover. Most of the parts like SSD, battery, sticks and others are modular and easily replaceable.

It is noted that the battery is not glued to the case, but fixed with screws, as in laptops. In general, the design of the console reminded the specialist of a laptop.

The only element that causes difficulties during repair is the screen, as it is glued to the frame and requires careful separation using a hot air blow. The rest of the console has no significant drawbacks in terms of ease of maintenance. However, Asus does not sell spare parts for the device, which can complicate repairs in the absence of an official service center of the company.

Meanwhile, experts have identified software flaws in the device, including Windows 11’s unstable operation and performance issues. It is assumed that this is due to the PC operating system not being optimized for portable consoles and it is not Asus’ fault.
