Crash detection, introduced on the iPhone 14 and the new Apple Watch, caused a sharp increase in false calls to emergency services at the Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee. In this respect informs 9to5mac portal.

It is recorded that the Bonnaroo festival brought together more than 80,000 people in total. Such events are usually accompanied by all kinds of events, but the crash detection functionality on Apple devices has only made it worse.

Coffey County Rescue Director Scott LeDuc said the false alarms were caused by festival-goers dancing. As a result, the iPhone 14s and Apple smartwatches were able to recognize crashes that didn’t actually happen and called 911 on their own to report the incident.

Rescuers contacted Apple during the festival to report a series of false calls. Apple offered to send its engineers to the scene to deal with the situation and identify the problem. But it did not come to this, and the problem was solved remotely.

Police urged festival-goers to turn off accident detection on their devices. According to LeDuc, this reduced the number of calls to the rescue service by 40-60%.
