Battlestate Games, the developer of the tactical shooter game Escape from Tarkov, has announced its position on data mining. The authors claim that extracting and distributing information from the game files harms the company and the game community and will be punished with blocking, informs DTF Portal.
The statement says that the data miners violated the license agreement signed when installing the game, and as a result, they will be blocked in Escape from Tarkov. Additionally, data miners deprive the game of the “wow effect” by revealing the game’s secrets and features in advance. For example, they can learn about the spawn chances of certain bosses, the conditions and rewards of the missions, and other data that the developers want to keep private until official announcement or release.
Battlestate Games also noted that data mining can give players who use this information an advantage over those who play fair. The developers stated that they want to control the disclosure of information about Escape from Tarkov themselves.
The studio has also promised to share news and details about the game more often by improving its communication with players. He also expressed his support for the fan-made Escape from Tarkov wiki, which does not break the rules, as its authors do not use illegal means to supplement articles in the online encyclopedia.
The announcement by Battlestate Games caused mostly negative reactions in the gaming community. Some bloggers at Escape from Tarkov expressed their dissatisfaction with the studio’s new policy and asked about the limits of acceptable use of information in the game. These questions have not yet been answered.
